I am blogging more than i usually do... which is very very unusual for me...
but the past 2 days were just not any normal day... at least not in my former days.
- Day 1 -
One of our bathroom faucet (or wutever that part was) broke... so once again our house had a flood...and the only way to stop the water from flooding out is by turning the main pipe off. Fortunately, it was only a minor flood and not one of sewage water.
My dad and his friend attempted to fix the problem but they bought the wrong pieces for the repairment. So we had to live one day without water. Okay, not entirely without... but we were limited because we can only turn the main water pipe on to get water when we really need it - cooking and simple washing. We filled up buckets and pots with water so we don't need to turn on and off the main pipe frequently. But obviously those containers were not enough.
If felt so weird experiencing what it's like without the luxury of using water whenever you want. We had to hover over the broken faucet to use the water... and we were given a limited time to perform more than one usage. The buckets of water were collecting dusts and looking unclean. It was a challenging experience and i felt so unsanitized. But at the same time, reminds me to not waste water and how fortunate I am to be able to freely use water again the next day.
- Day 2 -
Like any other school day, I came out of the subway station to find my ride home... except my ride was stuck in traffic and i had to relocate myself to get picked-up. As i was talking on the phone, i noticed some yelling and screaming just outside the station. I turned around and saw a girl yelling at a bunch of guys who were on the same train as i was. The girl was angry and her friends held her back. From my memory, I recall about 3 teenage girls surrounded by 10 guys.
It was like a scene in the movies where you can predict what can happen but don't want it to. Pedestrians were stopping to watch the commotion and one women walked into the conflict to help surpress the girl from her anger. Brave soul, broke the bystander effect. Props to her.
The yelling died down and some of us continued whatever we were doing. I started a conversation with another women who was watching. We both were shaken by the scene. We walked into the mall and went our separate ways. I couldn't take my mind off what happened, so i went back and saw the group still standing there. One of the sales person turned up the stereo... to... block out the yelling?... or was it just a coincidence?!?! I finally approached another sales person and told him what i saw and he said he'll call the security to check it out. After that, i left and found my ride.
Speak.
- if you find something that doesn't belong in your plate of food in a restaurant... speak... and you get a free meal plus desserts
- if you were treated with discourtesy by a TTC employee... take down the name, vehicle no., license plate... find the complaint procedures, fill out a form, send it... and hope they will do something about it and less people will be treated w/discourtesy
- if you see a commotion that can escalate to an unwanted ending... break the bystander effect and do something
- if you know a friend needs help... find the right help for him/her
... a friend once told me "Prevention is always the better cure."
