[. hideout .]

i can't stop braggin about my social science course!!! it's sooo good!! :D okay, it's boring at times... but really really really cool at other times!

well, today's class was probably the best one ever yet! maybe cuz the prof wasn't there lol. no, she's a pretty good prof but too bad she wasn't here today, she would have enjoyed the class

so what happened in class?
we had an awesome presentation!
by a student and her coworker - they help kids w/learning disabilities
showed us some neat tools they use to help them read and type. i should get those programs Xp
also demonstrated their difficulties and how technology can be a wonderful instrument providing alternative ways to get the same results as a person w/out the difficulties.

what captured my thoughts today was the experience of another student
how her son has learning problems. was failing in his old school. lost it, had anxiety and panic attacks. now that he is at a new school, he is doing much better w/the right help. and it's great that now she can approach experts to get probably the best help and advice.
the love of a mother for their child can be soo omongous. the willingness to stay w/them to work out through their struggles. seeing them hide away in the dark and pulling them out to face their fears and challenges.

we also watched a short video clip
there was a speaker by the name of Richard and he talked about how a kid's self-esteem is like poker chips. self-esteem can be increased by encouragments; poker chips can be given and in this case through positive healthy interactions. so the analogy is how teachers and parents can give enough poker chips so the kid can play the game of life.

it was a fascinating analogy for me. i gotta get my poker chips ready for my future kids

wow, that's amazing sarah! when people with disabilities gain back their confidence, they can be so influential, influencing even normal people. Like this woman who was in a scuba-diving accident, started to paint with her mouth, and Helen Keller, and Faith Crosby (who wrote Blessed Assurance)...and Helen Keller had a lady taking really good care of her...such an honourable woman!
just random thoughts in my head. Being involved in this field requires a lot of dedication and it's so cool that ur interested in it!
