[. side by edis --- connecting to my Chinese side .]
>>> of all concerts in Tdot i ended up in a Chinese one!?!?!?!
!!! warning: long story more like a review... read @ your own risk
went to the Alan Tam & Hacken Lee concert @ the ACC w/ybba :p
i got there early and thought i could just go in first... but as more and more Chinese ppl filtered into the ACC... i felt extremely intimidated >.< (way too many Chinese ppl!!!!!)
i was born in Hong Kong and moved here when i was an infant... and since my life began in Canada, i really made no extra effort to maintain my Chinese side >.<
i can hardly read, can understand cantonese to a certain level and have limited words to say
i watch only Chinese tv series that interest me... or else i'd just leave the kitchen and go do something else while my family continues
watch popular Chinese movies when my friends lends them to me... cuz i don't go purchase any...
listen to Chinese songs when my friends sends or lends them to me... cuz i don't purchase or d/l any...
apart from all the above... i really don't consider myself that Chinese
some friends told me that their first impression of me is that they think i'm more Chinese than they are......... well, like they say, it's only an "impression"
i'm not that Chinese... and neither am i that Canadian... i'm just.... a mesh of the two ??
but i still call myself a "CBC" but not refering to Canadian-born-Chinese... i'm like the reversed, Chinese-born-Canadian... lol
well, all i really wanted to point out is that... i'm one of the last ppl you'll see at a Chinese concert... going to one would be my last choice or not even on the consideration list! (how did i end up in this one? hahahaha... that's another story ^-^)
so i didn't go into the concert by myself... i waited at one of the gate doors w/my aunt who was waiting for her friends (and yah, my aunt was shocked when she found out that i was going to her idol's concert lol)... and waited for abby
we found our seats which were pretty decent seats! =) and went to look for food & beer lol...
to our dismay, the cashier told us that there's no alcohol in the entire building tonight gRRRrrrrRRRrrrrRRRrrr....
at first i was like WHAT?! and thought that they were being racists (lol... my bad)... but when the concert started... it all clicked in... the first song had lyrics about you don't need beer.... i guess Chinese ppl don't like beer, huh?.......... which isn't true lol
i guess it was a good thing... cuz there were ppl of all ages... and i guess it's setting a "good example" and is a good way to control and prevent more chaos
so....
no beer,
can hardly understand cantonese... (and forget about mandarin),
heard of these 2 celebrities but never listened to their songs,
and in a mob of Chinese ppl...............
what an exciting night it'll be, i thought
i was terribly wrong!!!!!! despite my incompetence for the Chinese culture... it was one of the best concerts ever!!!!!! seriously, i had soooooooooooooo much fun!!!!!!! (even when i understood less than 25% of what they were saying half of the time!!!!!! LoL)
abby and i couldn't stop laughing at the person who couldn't sing or dance that well (yah yah... i know... very mean... but really, you would have rolled on the floor laughing your ass off too!.... okay, maybe not... but i did lol)
and i really admire and appreciate the person who can sing and dance =) lol
but as i thought about it... these 2 previously solo artists...
one... who was red hot in China way back i dunno when
and the other... who is an excellent singer but as i've heard, never made it red hot in China (which is sad and i think he does deserve that kind of recognition... hopefully, now is that time for the peak of his career)
both who have seemed to have retired or just put their music career on hold for a while... are soooooo damn smart in making such a successful comeback by doing a partnership career w/each other
whoever thought of the brilliant idea - putting them together - is a total genius
without this type of partnership, amazing singing talents + semi-singing-talents but more of a "natural" comedian talents, these 2 artists would not be doing as well for their comeback
what i appreciate the most out of this concert is how well the performers connect and communicate to the audience
throughout the 3 hrs, they sang, danced, played drums, walked around interacting w/their fans, had lyrics on the screen encouraging ppl to sing along ( i tried.. singing the words i can read... like one or two.. and the rest i sang in "la la las" or "ah ah ahs"), had more karaoke style where they list out 2 songs and the audience get to choose which one they want to hear (well, obviously from statistics they know which one they'll most likely be singing... but still... it was fun!), talked about the origins of some songs, sang old songs since who knows when and new recent songs which i still haven't heard of, joked around, promoted their upcoming concerts in hk lol, and even had a hot guest!!! they sure know how to keep the crowd rolling!
dang it that i didn't get a picture of him! don't even know his name! LoL but he was one sexy guy in that gray/silver sparkling top! :p
they are brilliant in connecting to this type of all-aged group
maybe the trend will move towards all-aged-entertainers lol... who knows
even I had fun! or i'm just easily amused? lol
Thank you Alan Tam & Hacken Lee for a surprisingly spunky evening! :p and reminding me of my cultural background :)...... it's inescapable...
Thank you Abby & Wallace. i wouldn' have been there if it weren't for you guys!
Sankyus!
anyway, enough of me talking... let my digital pictures speak for themselves~
--------------------------------------------------
yay, fixed it! enjoy~
>>> Alan Tam & Hacken Lee poster screen thingy lol
>>> i love the lights!!! sooo pretty!!!
>>> there's Abby & i... and the 1/3 blocked poster screen of Alan & Hacken... grrrRRRrrr to that thingy that blocked it
>>> Abby w/the yellow balloon tubes. when we first sat down we noticed that ppl around us had these tubes. we wondered where they got it from... and i thought hmmm maybe they are tourists cuz i noticed a tourbus outside lol. but when the lights on the stage turned on and lit up the stadium, other ppl had it too... so i was like oh... maybe they aren't tourists lol (yay, random silly stories)
>>> there's me w/1 yellow tube cuz my other one leaked out gas ;) haha
(continuation of silly stories) so, we were never given the yellow tubes on our way into the stadium. how did we end up w/them? heeheehee... as easy as stealing a lollipop from a kid :p
nahhhh.... we aren't that cruel! halfway into the concert... the lady who sat in the row before us just suddenly took away 4 of those yellow tubes from her friends and gave them to us! i kinda felt bad for the man... she took them away from him while he was waving it around :/ oh well, it was a very generous offer and we said thank you... oh maybe she wanted to shut us up cuz we were so noisy lol... ahh whatever, it was a good night
