this is for those [*ahmen* ________ <-- just fill in ur name! haha] who have been bugging me about not posting! =p
well, today was certainly an interesting day. there were good, bad and funny things.
the bad: did not live up to responsibility; let fear take over from doing the right thing =( booooooo.... [sorry to those i let down (n God 2), i feel quite irresponsible >.<]... i need to learn to be obedient [yehyeh froshCell!] n responsible.
the funny: instead of watching THe MaTriX in my sociology class!!! my prof chose to show us a documentary about BARBIE & KEN!!!!! LOL...
as for the good: while i was in the library w/my friend after lunch today, i got an opportunity to do devo w/her =)
you see, many friends have chosen to give up something for 40days during this season of Lent (e.g. msn, icq, the comp@home altogether, hockey...), as for me, i couldn't think of what to give up (heh, yah i'm a selfish bum =p) so chihymn suggested to do 30min devo everyday... now that is quite a challenge! cuz honestly, i don't read the Bible daily >.< i found a few resources and settled with a book my minister suggested. so i got the book, "How Then Shall I Live?" - Lynn Godfrey (editor), and have been reading it. maybe not everyday, but i am trying and i have caught up to Week Four: Wednesday
so, back to my library story. ^-^ just as i was preparing to do my devo before catching up on my readings for school [which is highly impossible!!!] my friend asked what i was doing. her question surprised me cuz she knew that i came w/her to the library to do work! but despite my ignorance, i told her that i was getting ready to do my devo, and this opened an opportunity for me to tell her about Lent and the reflection book i was reading.
but not only did i get to tell her about Lent and my commitment, i got to do the actual devo with her!!!!! so i read today's blurp to her, and we read the prayer together! =)
the title of the reflection is called "Aren't You Going to Say Grace?" and the Bible verse is taken from Matthew 25:40
"Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me."
and here's a lil summary of it: this reflection was written by Bill Mercer who currently lives in Newfoundland. but this story is during his time in Toronto when he was a student at Emmanuel College and he wrote about his class assignment on homelessness. he had to "spend 12 hours on the streets with no money, no I.D., no bank cards, in order to grasp some understanding of what homeless people experienced everyday". so, in the evening, Bill met a homeless man and explained to him why he was on the streets. the homeless man asked Bill to buy him coffee, but Bill told him that he had no $moolaa$. [oh no! gum-deem-leh (translation: what to do-now)? ^-^]
well, the homeless dude took out his baseball cap and laid it on the floor. he also took out his harmonica and began to play. lots of people passed by and some generously dropped change into his baseball cap. the homeless man took the money and went to a coffee shop. he ordered 2 coffees n 2 donuts for himself and Bill. Bill was very eager to consume the food, and just as he was about to take a bite into the donut the dude asked "Aren't you going to say grace?"
Bill was struck by how he have forgotten to give thanks for the smallest n most simple things.
Bill realized that "he was the one who was the least of Christ's brothers, and that, by the kindness of that homeless stranger, he felt the grace and the touch of Christ in his life"
[now how often do i forget to say thanks to my Big Daddy? oh too many!]
so that was the reflection i read to my friend and this is the prayer we read together:
Loving God, in this season of Lent, may your spirit so touch me that I may begin to see your world and your people through your eyes. Open my heart to receive the love you freely offer and teach me to share that love, as freely, with all your people, from greatest to least. Amen.
lately i've been learning about hospitality and i'm really challenged to live a life that reflects God's character of being kind, caring, helpful, loving, inclusive and also how to be a good friend not just to selective ppl, but to those whom God have placed into my life =) this devo w/my friend was definitely a bonus!
my lessons of the day: no questions r dumb, be open minded n answer them wisely - cuz u never know what doors they can open, and let God guide u in ur conversations with others~
so there you go ppl! i finally blogged (once again after a blue moon) ^-^ it will be a while till my next post cuz 1st yr is coming to an end and that means >>> projects, assignments and exams!!!! n u guys r not as important as school!!!! LOL, jkz... seriously, if i didn't meet every1 of u this yr, i would not have survived! so thank YOU, _______ <-- fill in ur name!!! =)
all the best for the coming weeks every1---> finish sTronG! [yeeekz, that's another challenge!]
toodles~
